On 20 November Mr. Dietmar Woidke - the Minister-President of the German state of Brandenburg - and Mr. Michael Collins - the Ambassador of The Republic of Ireland - took the time to listen to a presentation by the German students who participated in the Strip to Identity project. The meeting was also attended by the Belgian coordinators Dirk Staf and Diederik Roelandts.
In general, the attention was drown to the fact that this project made us appreciate one another’s identity more. This is due to the many visits all the partners carried out and of course by making and reading the comic books as well. We appreciated the differences between all the participants and came to the conclusion that a European identity does exist.
After the presentations there was a forum where the the minister-president and ambassador took the time to discuss a couple of current European issues. There were a lot of questions about Brexit and the position of the Irish concerning Brexit. Eventually, we debated on the idea of a united Europe.
The conclusion was that we had to work together. As Mr. Woidke concluded: “We have to live the European normality but don’t take this normality for granted.”
